Aye carumbah…

aye, a while it has been since a moment or two i’ve had spare to tap meanderings onto me ol’ website which, so i’m told, will be but a memory in years to come as all that is binary will cease to exist one day… so i’m told…

february has been a hectic jostle as me old buddy jonny’s been around with a talented line up of side kicks with whom to play music with.. a run of gigs with Jon, Eoin the piper man from Dinlge and Cat Tunks the jazz diva from Piha, was cool and included a neat but windy little set up in Waitangi as a part of the Waitangi day commemorations.. an intriguing insight into a rather important aspect of bieng a new zealander.. twas interesting to hear comments from the non-kiwi contingent of Jon & Eoin both of whom were quite astounded by the haka and the waka… what struck me most though was the treaty house surrounded by military goings on and union jack flags flying (not one maori flag in sight) up on top of the hill and then the pa and maori encampment down across the bridge where the party was happening and the maori flags flying proud.. not one union jack in sight… just a curiousity is all… at the end of the day i just wear my greenstone with as much pride as my cockies farmer hat and my hippy pants and play music… the greatest weapon of unity known to earthlings…

another more recent run of gigs was with Jon (he’s a busy chap) and Toni Geiling, an old friend from the trip to Ireland in ’06… ’twas nice to have the old trusty trio on the road again.. we traipsed north after a quiet first gig/rehearsal at 121 cafe in ponsonby… Kaiwaka was great with all the local crew comin’ along and packing cafe Eutopia… bunking down at a local eco village was great… a lot of nice stuff going on in the permaculture way there… whangarei and again we were spoilt by the most brilliant hospitality and the food!!! wow… the wood stove was going non-stop with fresh buns and loaves of bread being baked around the clock and massive delicious meals bieng served to eagerly awaiting musicians… superb! onto keri keri and a packed cosy crowd of folkies again for the Latitudes to play to followed by a late night jam sesh featuring Demitri on the tea chest bass and Larry on the turkish oud, a most beautiful instrument in the right hands.. the final show on the northland tour was a house concert back in Waimauku where the great setting, great pizza oven, lovely wine, company and music made for a sulubrious end to the northland trip…

and most recently el trio made a short stint down to the coromandel to serenade the locals in Whangmata and Hahei.. Toni flys back to Germany this week and things get busier with the return of acoustic edge in Pukekohe and the triumphant return off “the band formerly known as the three mulleteers” (tbfkattm) due to the need for us to dispense of this now defunct name we’re fishing for suitable replacement titles… for now it’s “the day valley cortette” playing harvest bar pukekohe this coming saturday the first of march…

anyways folks… check the gig guide and meander along to a show sometime…

luff from the deep south…
